COMMENT: Railways Bill

The publication of the Railways Bill today is a key moment for Britain's railway and an important step towards creating a railway system that works better for passengers. The creation of Great British Railways marks an important opportunity to modernise the network and put passengers at the heart of reform.

We are pleased the Government has reaffirmed its commitment to a thriving third-party ticket retail market, recognising the value these retailers bring in driving competition, innovation and improved passenger experience.

With GBR's activities set to be governed by an ORR-managed code of practice, it will be important that this framework delivers genuine safeguards and ensures all retailers can compete on a level playing field.

The Bill opens the door for meaningful reform, and our OTUK members are eager to support the Government in shaping a rail retail market that expands consumer choice and improves outcomes for passengers.
